In a trial/test and commencing today any charter booking made through the Victor platform will include the option to purchase SAF through Neste’s MY SAF program. "At checkout during the booking process, all Victor members can now easily select how much fossil fuel they want to replace with MY SAF, from as little as 5 percent up to 100 percent," said London-headquartered Victor. In its neat form, Neste’s SAF reduces life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent versus jet-A.

Farnborough is looking to become net zero by 2030. As part of the program’s launch, just ahead of the upcoming Farnborough International Airshow, the airport has committed to offering sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at the same price as standard jet-A for a trial period from July 1 to the start of the show on July 18. The airport has been using offering SAF for up to a year now. "When it comes to supporting the decarbonization of the aviation industry, we want to lead the way at Farnborough Airport, which is why we have set ourselves one of the most ambitious targets in the industry," said Farnborough Airport CEO Simon Geere. "Put simply, we want our customers to increasingly choose Farnborough Airport because of our sustainability credentials, alongside our modern facilities and exceptional customer care."

AEG Fuels is putting themselves on the map further by offering Sustainable Aviation Fuel or both business jets and commercial customers. They have created a single-source portal which will allow customers to be able to access SAF from 20 locations around the world. "AEG will now give operators access to our SAF network utilizing the same fuel platform they already use," said Marc Ramthun, the company’s director of sales for business aviation, adding that industry interest in renewable fuel is growing. "Our goal is to enhance access to SAF as well as educate our customers on the product to help convert interest to demand."

It looks like a solar panel park will be built at Riga Airport. Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport, commented: "This is the first step towards the creation of a solar panel park at the airport. Considering the rising energy prices, solar energy has become a sustainable and cost-effective way to generate electricity, where today's investments will pay off in the future. Moreover, it also gives us the opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, which is one of the objectives of the airport's sustainability strategy towards zero emissions."

OMV Petrom will produce sustainable aviation fuel at the Petrobrazi refinery by co-processing locally produced rapeseed oil (similar to Canola). The first test run volumes are estimated for July, this year.

"The production of SAF is part of our strategic objectives and we believe that it will become the main alternative for achieving the climate objectives of the aviation industry. Our goal is that, in 2030, to have an annual combined production of SAF and HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) of about 450 thousand tons," said Radu Căprău, member of the Executive Board.

The open fan architecture is a key component of the engine maker’s “Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines” (RISE) technology development programme – which aims to demonstrate and mature a range of new technologies for future engines that could enter service by the mid-2030s. Going forward, open fan technology will also be the focus of a major Airbus flight demonstration campaign to be performed in collaboration with CFM in the second half of this decade.

What may sound like science fiction to many is now fast becoming reality. Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) – which removes human-induced CO2 directly from the air – could help multiple industries meet their net-zero carbon emissions targets. For hard-to-abate industries like aviation, it is emerging as a promising complementary solution to sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen.

Liverpool CAL International have teamed up with Australian green tech start-up AirSeed Technologies to embark on a ground-breaking climate change initiative, which will see the aerial platform technology aim to plant 100 million trees by 2024. The ground-breaking Anglo-Australian project and technology will not only tackle deforestation but also help in the major fightback against global warming. CAL International working in partnership with AirSeed Technologies has designed and engineered a seed pod delivery system that sits as “the engine” of AirSeed’s unique tree-planting aerial drone technology. Over the past 30 years, the world has lost more than 300 million trees through deforestation, natural disasters and human consumption.

Brisbane airport in Australia became the first airport there to have an all-electric fuel truck in operation. Operated by Air bp, the vehicle was developed in Australia, and is the first all-electric hazardous goods vehicle and refueller approved for use in this country. The Hon Catherine King MP, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government praised the developers of the project. "Its ticked so many boxes that we’ve all been talking about. Australian designed, Australian innovation, Australian manufacturing, a future made in Australia, Australian jobs, decarbonizing the transport sector, helping decarbonize the aviation sector which is really difficult to do."

Atlantic Aviation has increased its stock of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ahead of the UN Conference. Atlantic began stocking continuous supplies of SAF at its Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (KASE) FBO last year, and today it will receive an additional two loads of Neste’s blended SAF, delivered by renewable diesel-powered tankers, and placed into a newly dedicated tank. To commemorate the occasion, Atlantic will have a specially marked 'Atlantic Evolve' refueller. "Atlantic Aviation is firmly committed to going higher when it comes to promoting sustainable aviation, especially in sensitive mountain environments for which air travel is critical infrastructure for people, goods, and services," explained Brian Corbett, the FBO operator’s chief commercial and sustainability officer. "All of us at both Atlantic Aviation and Avfuel are pleased to increase our constant supply of SAF at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport for this landmark event."

WestJet has now operated the company's second ever sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) flight. It came with the departure of WestJet flight WS1681 out of New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Calgary International Airport (YYC). The departure and use of the fuel was planned that way for flight WS1681 to have coincided with the end of New York’s UN General Assembly and Climate Week NYC where world leaders gathered to discuss critical issues facing our environment, including the need to decarbonize and reduce global emissions. WestJet purchased 4,500 gallons of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation FuelTM from Avfuel Corporation for the September 26 flight.

Bombardier and Signature Aviation announced today they have reached a multi-year agreement for the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) quantities, utilizing the Book and Claim system, covering all of Bombardier’s flight operations starting in January 2023. The agreement is the first of this scope for a business aviation original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The initiative reinforces both companies’ leadership role in the promotion, adoption and widespread use of SAF.

"Bombardier already has a unique environmental advantage as our production facilities in Quebec are powered by cleaner hydroelectricity. We will drive our environmental stewardship even further by covering all our production flights with SAF through the new agreement with Signature Aviation," said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Executive Vice President Services and Support, and Corporate Strategy. "More of our customers are using SAF and so must Bombardier – we must all share in the responsibility for a sustainable future. We believe that taking action today allows us to have maximum impact on the sector as a whole and on the production of SAF."

All Signature FBOs located in California will now have supplies of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). "Two years ago we announced our first permanent supply of [SAF] for private aircraft in San Francisco," said Beatrice Batty, Signature’s director of fuel operations. "Since then we’ve maintained a sharp focus on investing in the supply chain, collaborating with our customers, and expanding availability with Neste." Customers will now be able to utilize SAF at its San Diego International, Santa Barbara Municipal, Fresno Yosemite International, and Palm Springs International airport locations. This is in addition to Los Angeles International, Long Beach International, Oakland International, Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International, and Van Nuys airports.
