4Air, a sustainability solutions provider in the industry has ranked Clay Lacy with a 'Facilities Neutral' rating. Remember a few years ago Clay Lacy installed a huge solar array setup on the roof on their hangar and buildings as well as changing all lighting to led and have ev-charging points around the facility for electric vehicles and the usage of carbon offset credits. The huge implementation of these sustainable features caught the attention of 4Air. "The Facilities Neutral rating affirms the sustainability strategy and actions taken by Clay Lacy Aviation to meet a carbon-neutral level," explained 4Air president Kennedy Ricci. "After a thorough review and audit, we offer Clay Lacy stakeholders and its customers assurance that its program has delivered in its goals of reducing its carbon footprint and procuring carbon offsets to attain carbon neutrality."

Castle & Cooke Aviation in partnership with Avfuel is offering a limited supply of SAF for jets flying in and out for the 'Big Game' on February 13th. There will be a load of 8,000 gallons for use and will be delivered to the Van Nuys FBO in early February in time for the planned football game. "The Big Game is a major event for aviation and we’re thrilled it’s coming to our region this year," said Tony Marlow, Castle & Cooke Aviation’s president of aviation operations. "Our team is ready to provide operators with the non-stop excellence and non-stop elegance customary of the Castle & Cooke Aviation brand; with the added bonus of sustainable aviation fuel for the event, we continue our efforts to be a good neighbor. We were Avfuel’s first FBO to receive a demonstrative load of SAF back in 2019 and we couldn’t be more proud to offer it yet again to our eco-conscious customers flying in for the event."

Signature Flight Support is giving its customers more options when it comes to fuel. They already carry SAF at nine other locations. However it has brought on new capacity at its Van Nuys (KVNY) location, You would know that Van Nuys is perhaps one of the busiest general aviation airports in the United States especially around big events.. It received two 8,000-gallon tanker loads just in time for one of the busiest periods in the business aviation calendar, the Super Bowl.

P&W has successfully tested the GTF Advantage engine configuration with 100 percent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The test took place at the company’s facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA starting on March 1 and marks a key step on the road toward 100 percent SAF operation of GTF-powered aircraft. "We’re thrilled to have successfully tested the GTF Advantage engine on unblended SAF," said Graham Webb, chief sustainability officer at Pratt & Whitney. "The GTF Advantage represents the greenest, lowest emission engine in the industry, and it is now demonstrating full operational capability for the greenest aviation fuels of today and tomorrow. Operation on 100 percent SAF is a key component of the industry’s commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the completion of these tests get us closer to that goal."

The latest Pilatus solar plant was connected to the power grid earlier this year: occupying an area of 190 by 70-meters and equipped with almost 5,000 solar modules, the maximum power output of the new Pilatus photovoltaic plant is sufficient to meet the energy requirements of over 300 single-family homes. This investment marks another big step forward by Pilatus toward climate-neutral aircraft production.

The new installation was substantially extended to occupy the greater space available: the roof of Pilatus’ newest timber hall, located right by the A2 motorway, has a surface area equal to almost two football pitches, allowing for the installation of 4,996 modules. The power station’s maximum power output is 1.973 megawattspeak (MWp). That means it produces around 1,700,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, covering the annual power requirements of over 300 single-family homes, to give an example of the plant’s capacity. This solar power plant is by far the largest in canton Nidwalden and is also one of the largest in central Switzerland.

Farnborough Airport in the UK has moved over to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for many of its diesel powered vehicles. The WP Group is behind the supply of the HVO, a paraffinic diesel that can directly replace regular diesel making it attractive to switch ordinary vehicles to it. "The Farnborough Airport team recognizes that climate change is a clear and pressing issue and is committed to minimizing its environmental impact and improving environmental performance throughout its operations," said Farnborough Airport CEO Simon Geere. "The introduction of HVO is another milestone in our sustainability program and an integral part in delivering against the government’s targets for net-zero carbon emissions."

Under aviation sustainability, a study is currently ongoing relating to making aviation tires from more sustainable means. In this instance, the study is looking at the used of Dandelion-derived 'rubber'. The 'rubber' will come from a particular species of the Dandelion family. Goodyear is collaborating with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), Air Force Research Lab, BioMade, and Farmed Materials to commercialize natural rubber made from Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TK) - a species of dandelion-.

Wilson Air is trying to get in on the sustainability of their aviation operations. They will be partnering with Titan Aviation Fuels. Titan Aviation Fuels has unveiled a carbon-offset program via its FBO network—with Wilson Air Center facilities as the launch FBOs—using Terrapass Green-e Climate-certified carbon credits. The Titan Aviation Fuels Carbon Offsets Program is currently supporting a 162-megawatt wind farm in Crow Lake, South Dakota, with 108 wind turbines generating renewable energy. All four Wilson Air Center FBOs—in Charlotte, Chattanooga, Houston, and Memphis—are the first in the Titan network to offer the program. "Wilson Air Center has always been centered around satisfying our customers' needs and requirements, and we are pleased to continue serving them by taking this next step with our carbon offsets program to help support our customers’ environmental initiatives," said Wilson Air Center owner Bob Wilson.

First major U.S airline to make commitment to the use of SAF. United Airlines is partnering with Neste. "Reducing carbon emissions from fuel is the fastest way United will reach our 100% green goal by 2050. As the airline that has invested more than any other airline in sustainable aviation fuel production, it makes sense to expand our network of partners internationally with a leading company like Neste," said Lauren Riley, United's Chief Sustainability Officer. "The demand from our customers to limit their emissions from flying is growing exponentially, and this agreement means that United customers flying from Amsterdam, and potentially more airports, will be partners in our sustainability efforts." Neste will provide United with 2.5 million gallons of SAF in Amsterdam in the first year. United will also have the right to purchase up to 20 million gallons in the second year, and up to 30 million gallons in the third year, at Amsterdam or other locations that Neste can supply throughout the globe, as Neste increases its SAF production.

The New York area has received its first pipeline Sustainable Aviation Fuel delivery. The Neste fuel, a blend of pure SAF and conventional jet-A destined to power a Delta Air Lines flight, underwent final processing at a Texas refinery. It was loaded into the Colonial Pipeline and traveled nearly 1,500 miles through 11 states before entering the Buckeye system for delivery to New York LaGuardia Airport. Apparently the fuel took 2 weeks to make the journey through the pipeline. "The U.S. East Coast is home to some of the USA’s busiest airports, and the vast majority of them get their fuel via the Colonial Pipeline system, and in New York, the Buckeye Pipeline system," said Chris Cooper, Neste’s v-p of renewable fuels for the Americas. "What we’re doing here is showing that just around the corner is a future where passengers at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson up to LaGuardia, JFK, and EWR can board a plane flying on SAF."

ATR and Braathens Regional Airline fly ATR on 100% SAF.

This was the proposal at the time.

    https://www.atr-aircraft.com/pressp...th-neste-to-accelerate-100-saf-certification/

"SAF plays a key role in achieving aviation’s emission reduction goals," said Jonathan Wood, Neste’s Vice President Europe, Renewable Aviation. "When used in neat form, at 100% concentration as on this test flight, Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions over its life cycle by up to 80%* compared to fossil jet fuel use, and provides additionally non-CO2 benefits through significantly reduced particulate emissions, among others. As a drop-in fuel, it can be used in existing aircraft engines and is compatible with current airport fuel infrastructure. Test flights like this show it is possible to safely fly on 100% SAF and help accelerate the adoption of SAF in aviation."
