  1. Stratolaunch ROC Testing To Return Aloft
Stratolaunch's ROC is being readied to take to the skies once again. The Stratolaunch ROC is the largest aircraft in the world (by wingspan) and is used to carry testbed payloads. So far the massive aircraft has been out in the open conducting lowspeed taxi tests at the Mojave Air and Space Port (KMHV) this week. Coming up very soon will be the craft's fifth flight test. That will be testing out a new center-mounted pylon from which a hypersonic vehicle will be attached. For the test flight though they will be looking at how the new pylon affects the flight of the Stratolaunch ROC.
  2. "We’ve designed this pylon to hook up to four attach points that are easily accessible to the aircraft," said Stratolaunch CTO Dr. Daniel Millman after Roc’s previous flight last February. "It’s less than a day’s effort to get the pylon on to the aircraft. Even better is how we will attach the adaptor that goes from the Talon to the pylon. We’ve got a very innovative design to make that go very quickly as well." Ensuring the pylon works properly is essential. The pylon is crucial. Without a fully tested and functional pylon, Roc won’t be able to perform its primary mission as a carrier aircraft for inflight aircraft launches. If you are not familiar with what the Stratolaunch is, it is the brainchild of the late Paul Allen.
