Switchblade Flying Car Takes First Flight The Switchblade Flying Car by Samson Sky has made its first flight. For those who may not know...the Switchblade is a three-wheel, street legal vehicle that you drive from your garage to a nearby local airport. Once there, the wings swing out and the tail extends in under 3 minutes. You then fly your registered aircraft directly to your destination – at up to 200-mph and 13,000-feet.
Once you land at the airport, you transform your flying sports car back to driving mode – the wings safely stowed and protected – and continue to your final destination. 1,850 lbs is the estimated Max. Gross Take-Off Weight and 575 lbs payload (people, bags, fuel). The craft can hold 125 LT of fuel and in flight model it measures around 20.2-feet but reduces to 16.8-feet for ground/road driving. It is 6-feet wide and has a wingspan when deployed of 26.9-feet.
If you are interested in this craft, Samson Sky suggests that it will start at around $170,000 dollars. Naturally you will require the requisite licenses to operate this craft. On the ground you will need either an automobile license or a motorcycle license. Some regulations vary from location to location. In the air you will need a private pilot license.
