Sabena Installs Leonardo Defense System on Global 7500 Normally this is perhaps news that you would expect to hear coming out of the defense industry. Countermeasure systems are usually installed on military aircraft depending on the application and some governmental aircraft also may be fitted with different systems but it is not the norm to see a Bombardier Global 7500 purpose-built executive jet have a countermeasure systems installed. In this case French-based maintenance/modification company Sabena technics installed the Leonardo Miysis directed infrared countermeasure system.
The aircraft is to be utilized in a VVIP role and is the first time such a system is known to have been installed on a purpose-built business jet. Sabena technics has installed other countermeasure systems onboard BBJ, ACJ and C-130 aircraft before but the Global 7500 is a first. "This is a great new opportunity to demonstrate the strong know-how we have acquired on aircraft protection system integration," said Sabena senior v-p of sales and business development Daniel Soltani. "Our growing portfolio of projects indicates our ability to successfully design, manufacture, install and certify any self-defense system on any aircraft type with any OEM." It is the development of the first EASA STC for Leonardo Miysis DIRCM system installation on this Ultra Long Range Business Jet.
