Bombardier Ships First Global 7500 With Dual HUD Most executive jets that have a Heads Up Display (HUD) in the cockpit usually have just one. Bombardier recently delivered a unit in their new Global 7500 flagship model that has two installed in the cockpit making it a first for the Global series. The co-pilot can now benefit from what the captain sees as well and make better informed decisions. "The delivery of the first Global 7500 aircraft with a dual HUD showcases our outstanding commitment to safety," said Michel Ouellette, Senior Vice President, Program Management and Engineering, Bombardier Aviation. "This cockpit is designed to put technology and automation at the service of the crew, rather than creating technology that the crew has to manage."
The advantages of having a second HUD are pretty standard and straightforward. The duplication of the HUD on this particular Global 7500 aircraft affords benefits including increased contribution from the co-pilot during HUD-assisted operations, easier switching between pilot flying and pilot monitoring as well as valuable redundancy during low-visibility approaches. Many other large cabin category business jets carry the HUD in the cockpit too. It is just a matter of suggesting that two is better than one perhaps.
