Citation XLS/Excel Approved For Garmin G5000 Upgrade In the last few days the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved the Garmin G5000 flightdeck for the Cessna Citation Excel and XLS models. This particular avionics suite is fairly popular as an upgrade for some of these Citation jets. Honeywell Primus 1000 is what was in XLS/Excel models originally and the G5000 is quite the upgrade.
The upgrades help to improve situational awareness and efficiency in operations and flight planning as newer large format landscape-oriented screens permit simultaneous viewing of maps, charts, checklists, terrain avoidance and warning system, traffic collision avoidance system, flight plan information, and weather. The newer screens offer split-screen configuration and there is a touchscreen interface which is modern and intuitive for the pilots.
