Bombardier Global 5500 Flies Into Service The Global 5500 is the smaller of two new jets from Canadian manufacturer Bombardier. The second being the larger Global 6500. The two are essentially refreshes of very popular jets from the Global family, the Global 5000 and the Global 6000. The 6500 and 5500 were announced at the 2018 edition of the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE). "This spacious and efficient aircraft is the ultimate business tool, with the range and access to safely take our customers where they need to be," said Bombardier Aviation president David Coleal.
Equipped with the new Pearl 15 engines from Rolls Royce, 15,125 lbs of thrust now come from each side offering the pilots around 30,250 lbs of thrust. The efficient engines help give the Global 5500 a 5,900 nautical mile range which is actually 200 nautical miles more than Bombardier 'expected'. With up to 16 passengers on board the large cabin jet can wisk you to your destination at Mach 0.90. The Global 5500 gained type certification for FAA, EASA and Transport Canada last year.
