New Hydrogen-Electric Business Jet By Beyond Aero The Paris Air Show opened its doors today and there has been an unveiling of a new aircraft for the business jet market that is proposed to run as hydrogen-electric. It is called the BYA-I from French startup Beyond Aero. This business jet is expected to wisk passengers (four) at 310 ktas at ranges just above 800 nautical miles. Although this announcement may have taken some by surprise.
Beyond Aero has actually be actively working on a subscale technology demonstrator to test its hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain. Base specs for the aircraft include Hydrogen-fuel cell hybrid powertrain 1.3 MW max shaft power power plant. Maximum operating speed is 310 ktas at a maximum certified ceiling of 30,000 feet with a day VFR range of 800 nautical miles. It will be targeting EASA CS23 certification as well the FAA's FAR23. When developed the aircraft would be able to operate from 2,800-foot runways.
The company is very new only having been established in 2020 and is in a fledgling stage. It now has to successfully attract support and financing if it is to continue further to develop this new aircraft. So far it has raised approximately 10 million dollars but there are commitments of some kind for 72 BYA-I already worth in the region of 580 million dollars which suggests that the base price per unit is around 8.05 million dollars.
