Bombardier announces new delay for LearJet 85 Canadian business jet manufacturer Bombardier recently suggested that there will be another delay to the Learjet 85 programme. It is now expected the the new jet-model, the first one, will be delivered in third quarter 2014 or some 6 to 9 months later than originally scheduled. Not a good look for Bombardier who also posted their financial results for the last fiscal year, showing roughly 30% decline for the fourth quarter 2012.
Problems related to the airframe's all-composite structure seems to be at the heart of the delay. Bombardier says this is the first time that they have built a jet fully from composite materials and persents a unique challenge for them. It is also the first time that they are assembling a complete airframe in Querétaro, Mexico. "I don't want to say the challenges are completely behind us," says Pierre Beaudoin, Bombardier president and chief executive. "There will be additional challenges, but I think we understand very well the work that needs to be done." ***
