  1. Testing On RR Pearl 700 Wrapping Up
The new Rolls Royce Pearl 700 powerplant which will be powering the brand new Gulfstream G700 is wrapping up testing according to the engine manufacturer. Rolls Royce revealed the news at the 2022 edition of EBACE being held in Geneva. If you are attending the show you can find them at Booth X93. Efforts are now shifting towards production of the engine. The new engine is markedly more efficient than previous generations like the BR72s that power the G650. The Pearl 700 engine is approximately 5% more efficient and offers 12% better thrust to weight ratio as well as 8% better take-off thrust.
  2. During testing one of the major achievements was the running of the Pearl 700 on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Colm Golden, Rolls-Royce's senior v-p for the Pearl 700 program said, "You can have more complex shapes and enable the most efficient combustion process." This is in reference to the utilization of 3D-Printing on parts of the engine. Using 3D printing on the combustor tiles allows Rolls-Royce engineers to optimize their shape in ways that traditional manufacturing cannot, Golden said. The core of the engine and the light-weight advanced parts surrounding it is really where the efficiency has been gained on the Pearl 700 engine.
