More Versatility Accolades For G280 In 2020 Earlier in the year the Gulfstream G280 demonstrated once again it is one of the best super-midsize luxury jets on the market. Looking back to February 16, the record-making G280 left Vermont’s Burlington International Airport bound for London City Airport arriving 6 hours and 10 minutes later. Of course arrival into London City Airport requires a steep-approach landing. The 2,735-nautical mile/5,065-kilometer trans-Atlantic journey was completed at an average speed of Mach 0.83. Aircraft that operate at London City require steep-approach certification because of the airport’s short runway and stringent noise-abatement requirements.
"The Gulfstream G280’s combination of range, fuel-efficiency and performance, particularly on short runways, reinforces its place atop the super-midsize class," said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. "These latest city-pair speed records are further proof of the aircraft’s superior performance capabilities bolstered by its advanced wing, robust airframe and powerful engines." The Gulfstream G280 now has 75 records to its name since it entered service. There are over 200 of these aircraft in service today and an added notation is that the G280 is the only super-midsize jet that is certified to land using the Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS).
