  1. GE Aviation Stops Work On Affinity Engine For AS2
With the news that Aerion Aerospace suddenly ceasing operations work on the powerplant that was destined to power the aircraft has also stopped. The Affinity engine being made by GE Aviation was expected to be the powerplant powering the supersonic AS2 by Aerion. GE Aviation has been working in the supersonic sector for business/airliner jets being designed for this purpose. The AS2 was not the only jet that GE Aviation was making an engine package for. In fact just last year the company handed over two powerplants (F414-GE-100) for the NASA X-59 QueSST. Below we see the AS2 in Net Jets colours as they were a customer for the supersonic jet.
  2. For GE Aviation the Affinity Engine which is a new engine for the AS2 but largely perceived as being partly Passport engine and CF56 engine at the core, the performance was aimed at the 16 to 20,000 lbs thrust region. Back in 2018 when GE Aviation announced that they were making the Affinity engine they said the basis for the powerplant will be a, "proven engine core adapted from GE’s commercial airline portfolio". The AS2 was envisioned to go supersonic to Mach 1.4 with an operational ceiling of 60,000 ft.
