  1. Embraer Unveils Regional Turboprop Concept
Something new has been cooking at Embraer for a while and it is a design for a new turboprop that they believe will serve as a replacement in the 50 seat segment. The new aircraft is actually aimed at the 70 to 90 seat segment. A few days ago the Brazilian airframer gave more details on the upcoming new turboprop. One of the most notable aspects to the aircraft that stand out other than the intricate paint work is the aft-mounted engines. Of course while the idea is not new to have engines rear mounted as business jets use this arrangement, it is an odd sighting in use with propellers.
  2. Unlike the traditional wing-mounted engines, Embraer opted to go with the rear mounted engines near the tail of the aircraft. They believe that this arrangement will make the cabin even quieter. It will also allow for jetbridge compatibility at the airport. Embraer is suggesting the aircraft will have the same cross-section as the E-Jets. Previous renderings for the new Embraer concept showcased the engines being wing-mounted in the traditional manner. With the cross-section of an E-Jet the seating configuration could be 2-2 although this has not been confirmed. Larger overhead bins are anticipated. Despite a few more details and renderings becoming available it is not expected that this new aircraft will come into service anytime soon. (Below is the previous incarnation of the proposed aircraft.)
