  1. $400M Global Production Site To Open In 2023
Come 2023 Canadian airframer Bombardier will open its brand new $400-million dollar production site at Toronto Pearson. It will be for Global line production and will replace its current 1960s era Downsview plant. In 2019 the company made the announcement that they were moving their Global Jet family aircraft production to a new site. The new 770,000 sq-ft facility will also be significantly more environmentally friendly and efficient.
  2. The new site is predicted to be 60 percent more efficient on energy use than the current Downsview airport plant. Widespread use of LED lightning as well as natural lighting will be incorporated throughout the facility. A fuel farm holding sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will be installed to satisfy departing aircraft from the site. Electric vehicles will be the preferred method of travel around the site. Efficient ways of handling heating and processing of greenhouse gasses are to be employed. The 2,000 workers that currently hold jobs at the Downsview site will migrate over to the Toronto Pearson site in Mississauga, Ontario. "I'm so proud that Bombardier, one of the world’s most innovative aviation companies, has chosen to make this very significant investment in Mississauga," said Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie. "By opening its new Global Manufacturing Centre of Excellence in our city, Bombardier will strengthen our world-class aviation sector by continuing its relationship with Mississauga-based companies that provide leading-edge capabilities to support Bombardier’s family of Global business jets. I look forward to working with Bombardier and Pearson to find new ways to bring more aerospace investment to Mississauga"
