As restrictions and sanctions take hold on Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian business aviation sector is feeling the pinch...or squeeze at this point. Russian registered, owned, or even affiliated aircraft are temporarily banned from operating in EU and U.S airspace. Those who did not get out in time more than likely are grounded as well. These actions will likely force RA registered aircraft to be re-registered in more 'friendly' areas like Montenegro. The issue is complicated because many owners tend to have their assets held in a shell company and it may not always be easy to ascertain who owns what.

It isn't just Russian-related bizjets alone that will feel the squeeze. The FBOs and other services that depend on these aircraft movements will be starved the longer this crisis endures. If other sectors of the chain of services -insurances, parts, MROs etc- decide to sanction these jets. It could have a knock on effect. Time will tell.

While Airbus and Boeing has cut ties with Russia the latest to do so is Embraer and they are a pivotal purpose-built executive jet manufacturer aside from their commercial exploits.

Over in the Caribbean island of Aruba, The Department of Civil Aviation Aruba (DCA) are clamping down on Russia-connected aircraft. They have therefore taken steps to enforce sanctions on aircraft based in Russia or connected with Russian entities, including aircraft groundings and, in some cases, de-registration, the organization said. As an autonomous state of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba is legally bound to implement European Union-imposed sanctions, including those applied to Russian and Belarus companies, citizens, and other organizations. Additionally, they are reviewing the supply chain.

It isn't just business jet companies feeling the fallout. Major aviation lessor Aer Cap had a 2 billion dollar loss due to aircraft and engine write-offs partly stemming from its inability to get its aircraft from out of Russia.
