VALO Program Moves Forward Despite Setbacks June 5th, 2026 was the date that Vertical Aerospace made the first piloted flight with the full-scale flight-test aircraft. The company has been working on Critical Design Review (CDR) which looks to lock in the final design of the aircraft that will be moved through to certification. Additionally, once the CDR hurdle has been passed, Vertical can look forward to building the first pre-production aircraft or certification-conforming aircraft.
Despite making gains in the developmental and prototype-testing phases of this British eVTOL program Vertical Aerospace still has issues to work out that now have been confirmed to have pushed back the program to 2029 after previous announcements that certification was aimed for 2028.
The newest full-scale prototype aircraft is registered as G-EVTB as a differentiator from the previous demonstrator prototype registered G-EVTA. However, some recent news from Vertical is that they have been working to put together approximately 100 million dollars in new financing. The financing has been split-up between different partners. $40 million of the proposed financing is coming from Vertical’s largest shareholder, Mudrick Capital Management. An additional $35 million is expected to be raised through shares and warrants valued at $1.05 per unit. The third facility is expected to yield $25 million to be granted through an existing preferred-equity agreement with Yorkville Advisors Global. There is some additional financing possible from their largest shareholder.
Additionally, Vertical wants to make a hybrid version of the VALO. In its current form and certification efforts the VALO will be an all-electric aircraft. However, the airframer is also pursuing the hybrid route which will be beneficial for endurance and range-extension. The third prototype is expected to be converted for hybrid-electric flight testing during the first half of 2027 if all goes according to plan. The potential $100 million will move the program through the CDR. The company also plans to expand its battery-production capacity, develop its British production facilities and previously mentioned, convert its third prototype for hybrid-electric flight testing.
