P180 Avanti NX Gains First Orders After Unveiling
Piaggio has been out of the news cycle for a while but recently surfaced because of news that broke at the ongoing Aero Friedrichshafen show. The airframer announced that it received its launch order of the new Piaggio P180 Avanti NX. As you might imagine the NX is the latest variant of the P180 Avanti base aircraft which has been around for a long time as one of the world's only turbo pusher-prop business aircraft. For historical context, the Beechcraft Starship had the pusher-prop concept long before Piaggio having its first flight around 1986.

The P180 Avanti NX is the newest iteration of this family with the Avanti EVO being the last major upgrade done to this platform. The P180 Avanti NX was unveiled in February 2026 but did not really garner world-wide coverage. The P180 Avanti NX will still look like the past pusher-prop that we have come to know and love but it will have many upgrades both in the cockpit and the cabin.

“We are proud to sign a contract for the sale of the Avanti NX so soon after unveiling the aircraft,’’ said Piaggio Aerospace CEO Giovanni Tomassini. ‘’Returning to Aero Friedrichshafen after a long absence and signing a contract for two aircraft demonstrates that, with the support of Baykar, we are making a strong comeback in the aviation market.’’

It is still early days for this new model iteration but the airframer suggests it would like production to be in the region of 30 aircraft per year as demand allows. Aside from the newest variant, the airframer has been kept busy with maintenance-related work on older Avanti aircraft. It wasn't long ago that Piaggio was in a year's-long administration process while trying to get the company sold to suitable interests. The company was essentially acquired by Baykar, an entity from Turkey.
