Garmin Emergency Autoland Certified By FAA For HondaJet Elite II Honda Aircraft Company has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for the Garmin Emergency Autoland on the HondaJet Elite II. It becomes the first twin jet to be approved by the FAA as the Autoland by Garmin has mostly been approved by the FAA on turboprop singles and twins. The only other jet it is certified on is the Cirrus Vision Jet but that is a single-engine jet.
“Adding Emergency Autoland to the HondaJet Elite II demonstrates our commitment to delivering new value to our customers,” said Honda Aircraft president and CEO Hideto Yamasaki. “I’m proud that our team is fulfilling this promise by offering Emergency Autoland and giving our HondaJet Elite II customers greater peace of mind during every flight.”
The HondaJet Elite II now has the distinction as being the first twin to be given the greenlight by FAA to have the the Garmin Autoland although they are several other twins currently in the works being tested for certification. These include the new third generation versions of Cessna Citation CJ3 and CJ4 twin-engine jets.
The Autoland technology is worthy addition. The suite has automated monitoring systems embedded within Autoland that can ascertain pilot unresponsiveness and determine whether to activate the system. In addition, the system can be activated manually through the push of a button. Once activated, EAL transmits an emergency code and conducts radio calls to alert air traffic control of the emergency. The system is able to autonomously evaluate weather, terrain, fuel, and runway dimensions to select the optimal diversion airport. It can then configure and land the aircraft, including applying the brakes to a full stop on the runway.
