Ohio Production Plant Acquired By Joby Aviation The eVTOL race is not just about fielding prototypes and amassing prototype test hours and working towards full-scale conforming test articles for regulatory approval. Many of these eVTOL companies are at this stage however, many of them have not secured or built out their manufacturing base in anticipation for future manufacturing of customer-bound aircraft. This part is very important as it is key to being able to deliver the manufacturing prowess to facilitate the ramp-up for turning pre-orders into customer deliveries. Joby Aviation has taken a step in the right direction with the acquisition of a production plant in Ohio.
Specifically the company has acquired a 700,000 sq ft facility in Dayton, Ohio which will significantly expand the manufacturing capabilities of the eVTOL airframer. This is important to Joby's ambitions to have dual-location manufacturing production - California and now Ohio-. It marks a major step towards Joby’s commitment to double aircraft production in 2027.
The facility, which is ready for immediate use, will initially support Joby’s plans to double production to four aircraft per month in 2027, while also providing space for significant future growth. The factory complements Joby’s existing production facilities in California and Ohio, with operations in the new facility expected to begin this year.
“This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, it can also serve as a base for significant future growth, as we turn a decade of engineering into the manufacturing scale the market is now demanding,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO, Joby Aviation.
