Texas A&M University has broken ground on an FBO complex at the school-owned Easterwood Field Airport (CLL) in College Station. While the Brazos Valley facility has not received much attention in decades, an ambitious $10.5 million project aims to transform it into a state-of-the-art regional airport. A new private aviation facility accounts for $6.5 million of that investment. Its project features a 8,500-sq-ft executive terminal with dedicated crew lounge, multiple conference rooms, office space, a catering kitchen and staff training areas. Also in the works is a new 40,000-sq-ft hangar, bringing total storage space to 75,000 sq ft. The new building will accommodate the latest large-cabin business aircraft when it is completed in early 2018. Managed by Astin Aviation, the FBO is the lone provider on the field, which sees approximately 120 operations a day. (AIN)

Signature Flight Support opens a new FBO in Seattle. The FBO opened at the Boeing Field/King County International Airport (BFI). The $11.5 million facility has 6,250-sq-ft executive terminal and full front-desk services. There are pilot lounges as well as boardrooms. This is not the only one in Seattle though as there is one at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to the south of this one.

A new hangar is being constructed at the Stuart Jet Center in Florida. When it is completed in November, it will add some 320,000 square feet of covered space. Company president Dan Capen said, “These new hangars, complete with office space, will give us the space we need to accommodate the growth of Stuart and our customer base, particularly has we head into the winter months,” when seasonal traffic picks up.

Jet Aviation marked the expansion of flight services in the Caribbean on July 13 with the grand opening of a new Fixed Base Operation (FBO) in San Juan at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport. More than 150 guests including customers and industry members attended the event. “Jet Aviation San Juan now delivers industry-best FBO and flight-management services to customers at this increasingly busy destination and one of the most convenient airports for international travel in the region,” said David Paddock, senior vice president and general manager, Jet Aviation Regional Operations USA. “It’s the only FBO in the Caribbean with an on-site, full-service U.S. Customs and Border Protection terminal that conveniently provides all of the customs, immigration and agricultural services our international customers need.”

Jet Aviation celebrated the opening of a new FBO (fixed-base operation) at Hanscom Field at Boston/Bedford on August 22 with a ribbon-cutting performed by the first customer to enter the building.

The two-story, 12,000-square-foot facility opened for business officially after the red ribbon was cut by Bob Braceland, director, Executive Aircraft Operations at Raytheon, who served as the ceremonial first customer. The opening was followed by a catered lunch for Jet Aviation’s tenants, customers and staff at the FBO.

“Opening this state-of-the-art facility is a big step into the future of premium service for our customers and the community,” said John Langevin, vice president of Jet Aviation FBO Operations in North America. “We’re proud to complete this building that was designed and built to improve safety and efficiency, as well as be more protective of the environment by meeting the standards of the United States Green Building Council.”

The FBO opening followed a grand-opening event in June for the adjacent new 40,000 square-foot hangar. The FBO features two customer lounge areas, two pilot shower rooms, a snooze room and a pilots’ lounge with two privacy rooms. There are also two conference rooms with full video-conferencing capabilities. Now that the FBO team is occupying the new space, the old FBO building will be offered for lease.

“The expanded FBO at Boston/Bedford is among many recent and upcoming improvements to Jet Aviation’s global FBO network,” Langevin said. “The new FBO at Washington Dulles International Airport opened in April and the newly-branded Jet Aviation San Juan FBO at Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico opened in July.”

At 600 sq m (6,460 sq ft), the new FBO—which, like Jet Aviation’s facility at Dubai International Airport (DXB), is operated in partnership with the Al Mulla Business Group—is six times larger than the company’s previous location at Al Maktoum International. With European style and branding similar to the company’s other locations, such as at Zurich and Geneva, it features a trio of 40-sq-m (430-sq-ft ) customer lounges along the main corridor, a conference room, crew lounge, separate prayer rooms for men and women, shower facilities, operations center and a designated waiting room for chauffeurs. The terminal also houses a large duty free shop. “We are very pleased to begin operations at Dubai South and look forward to welcoming customers to our new FBO, where they can expect to receive the highest quality services in the comfort and style to which they are accustomed with Jet Aviation,” said Stefan Benz, senior vice president of regional operations for EMEA and Asia.
