Leading Chinese business aviation company Deer Jet aims to open four to six fixed-base operations (FBOs) this year, adding to its current four. The new 2014 FBOs do not include one at Beijing, though Deer Jet already has the building for it. The company is not sure the Beijing operation can be opened this year. It does not identify the locations of the new FBOs, but Deer Jet notably lacks such facilities at Shanghai, Guangdong and Chengdu.

The company’s fourth FBO opened at Changsha in February, aimed especially at the leisure market that can be served from that city, the capital of the province Hunan. The others are at Shenzhen, a busy business destination, and at Haikou and Sanya on the holiday island of Hainan, the home of parent HNA Group. (AW)

After a bid open to all FBOs present at Al Maktoum (DWC) in Dubai, event organizer F&E Aerospace selected Jetex Flight Support to be the official FBO for several business aviation related events held in the UAE. “Jetex is well known in the region for flight support and this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate [that capability],” comments Jetex CEO Adel Mardini.

The agreement makes Jetex’ DWC facility in Dubai the official receiving FBO for this year’s MEBA, next year’s Dubai Airshow and MEBA’s 2016 edition. In addition to overall FBO services, the company plans to provide aircraft push-back, towing and parking services to all incoming aircraft heading to these events, customs, immigration and visa arrangements. For you Corporate types, if your flying into Houston, next time try Sugarland Airport in South West Houston, they have an FBO that is second to none. I met with the Manager of the FBO and their amenities are beyond belief. After touring the facilities, I was asked what I would add if I were the Manager...the only thing (seriously) that I could come up with was providing an inflight attendant for flights originating and ending in Sugarland. This isn't a plug...the Airport is owned by the County (Ft.Bend), and is 20 minutes to downtown. It's one of the best FBO's I've ever walked into.

    New FBO opens at Cork

Led by aviation veterans Peter Costelloe and Michael Ryan, EVS Aviation will provide all-round FBO services for general aviation (GA) customers flying into ORT. According to Costelloe, who will take on the position of Director, ORT’s infrastructure experienced a revitalization over the last few years, paving the way for new establishments such as EVS Aviation to plant their roots.

“The South-West region has a very strong multi-national presence,” he further explains. “This, together with the region’s enormous popularity as an international tourism destination, has resulted in a growing market for GA services in the region, a market EVS Aviation intends to satisfy.” In collaboration with the airport authority, Costelloe looks forward to developing the GA offering at ORT.

Hawthorne Global Aviation Services has been busy over the last year.

In March, the company opened its newly built FBO at Chicago Executive Airport (KPWK), acquired the Atlantic Executive Jet Center at Atlanta’s Cobb County Airport (KRYY) in July, and two months later announced plans to offer U.S. Customs inspection there by 2015.

The new Chicago facility features 30,000 sq. ft. of Class A hangar space that can accommodate a range of business aircraft up to Gulfstream G650 size. It currently has four tenants. In addition, the new FBO has a 10,000-sq.-ft. terminal for passengers and amenities, including pilot lounges and conference facilities. It offers computer flight planning and weather service, deicing and after-hours fuel and emergency services. The Chicago acquisition broadens Hawthorns geographic footprint of FBOs in the U.S., particularly in the large Midwest market. Chicago Executive has three active runways on 412 acres and is a major reliever for O’Hare International. (Aviation Week)

Executive and general aviation passengers coming to Super Bowl XLIX had few problems despite the many challenges this year, such as weather/fog. Phoenix-area airports reported handling approximately 1,060 different aircraft from Saturday through Monday, accounting for 1,972 operations in the three-day period. Alot of the jets arrived just before the game and departed right after. All in all it was a good situation for the many FBOs in the general area of the Stadium.

Landmark Aviation has purchased an FBO at Ellington (EFD) in Houston, TX from Ellington Partners. The company already owns an FBO at the George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport (IAH). We are happy to expand our footprint in Houston, and we look forward to being a part of EFD and its surrounding communities,” states Landmark Aviation President & CEO Dan Bucaro. “Ellington is a great alternative to other more congested airports in the Houston area.” The FBO was founded by Jim Bath in 1984. The facility has two executive terminals and over 150,000 sq ft of hangar, office and shop space.

American Aero FTW, a fixed-base operator (FBO) located at Meacham International Airport in Fort Worth, Texas, became the first FBO in the Western Hemisphere to be issued a rigorous new safety and ground handling accreditation from the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC). American Aero was awarded the IBAC International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS- BAH) certificate of registration. IBAC officials made the announcement at the annual International Operators Conference in San Antonio, Texas. “We would like to congratulate the entire team at American Aero FTW for this tremendous achievement,” said Terry Yeomans, IS-BAH Program Director for the IBAC. “By adopting the IS-BAH code of best practice, American Aero has made a clear commitment to demonstrate its leadership in safety management and risk mitigation.”

Comlux America, the US completions and service center arm of the Comlux Group, has broken ground on an extension to its VIP completion hangar. The new construction is expected to be completed in six months, and will raise the footprint of the hangar to a massive 14,600m² (160,000ft²). To put that into perspective, it is enough space to house a widebody and four narrowbody aircraft, all at the same time. The first aircraft to occupy the new building is expected to be an A330. The twin-aisle airliner is scheduled for delivery to the Indianapolis facility in July, this year and will thereby mark Comlux's entry into the widebody completions market. The project – the ninth completion for Comlux America – is expected to take around two years.
