Diamond Jet tests fly-by-wire on DA42

Diamond Aircraft, the manufacturers of the Diamond Jet DA42 twin-engined aircraft, have tested the sophisticated fly-by-wire system on that model. According to Diamond, The four-axis fly-by-wire system was flown on the twin-engine aircraft as part of a European Union funded research project called small aircraft future avionics architecture (SAFAR).

The high-end goal of Diamond Aircraft is to utilize the fly-by-wire technology in order to achieve maximum safety features on the DA42 model. The sophisticated technology will enable the DA42 to perform automatic take off, flight as well as landings, hence why the testing phase has been as rigourous as it has been. Another safety feature to the fly-by-wire system is that it prevents the pilots from over-stressing the flight control surfaces of the aircraft. In other words, a digital computer interprets the inputs by the pilot, and commands the control surfaces with the optimal movement.
