It seems that Air Asia X will take delivery of their first Airbus A330neo in 2019 rather than the previously announced 2018. There are slight delays that are resulting in the later delivery date. Air Asia X has over 60 A330-900neos on order are showing great interest in them at the 2014 Farnborough Air Show. The first flight of the A330neo is expected later this Summer and the launch customer is TAP Portugal.

TAP Portugal unveiled their retro livery on one of their Airbus A330s recently. The aircraft has the name "Portugal" which is a name recycled from 1972 worn by a Boeing 747-200 at the time. The 285 seat A330 registered CS-TOV was formally shown to the public yesterday before it re-enters revenue service.

Airbus has sent one of its Airbus A350-1000 test bed aircraft to Al Ain, United Arab Emirates to conduct hot-weather testing. This would not be the first time for Airbus to use this area for this specific type of testing. Temperatures at the airport there reach over 46 degrees Celsius. Many of the Middle Eastern carriers will be keeping close eye on data coming out from these tests as they have orders in for this variant of the A350. Launch customer Qatar Airways will be keen on ensuring everything goes well as its outspoken CEO Akbar Al Baker has been less-than-pleased with some of Airbus' products in very recent times.

Lion Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. If you are confused a bit by the livery that is understandable. The tail features Malaysia's Malindo Batik livery on it yet the forward fuselage has Lion marked on it along with the logo on the engines. Apparently this aircraft was originally to go to Malindo but was transferred to Lion Air at a late stage to facilitate expansion that the company wants to fulfill.

I looks like Qatar Airways has cancelled four Airbus A350-900s. These jets were ordered a long time ago, back in 2007. Qatar Airways is going through an interesting time where restrictions have been put in place by other Gulf nations. Of the 39 outstanding A350-900 orders, 15 have been delivered.

For the first half of the year Boeing has won the orders racing with its closest competitor Airbus. Figures that were released on the 7th of July suggest that Boeing accumulated 381 orders for the first six months of the year compared to 203 by Airbus.

The woes for Airbus continue as it relates to the A320neo and the GTF (Geared Turbo Fan ) on the PW1100. And one of their biggest customers, low-fares carrier IndiGO have problems with the PW1100 that results in them having to sideline seven aircraft. Since IndiGO’s contract includes replacement of the full engine, slow deliveries from Pratt & Whitney continue to hamper its efforts to place the airplanes into service while the engine maker concentrates on deliveries for newly parked neos in queue for the powerplants at Airbus’s plant in Toulouse. Last week two more aircraft joined the list of AOGs (aircraft on ground), even while Pratt delivered two engines for IndiGO neos.

AerCap announced that it signed leases for 65 aircraft during 2Q17. The Irish-based lessor suggested these agreements comprised 18 long-haul and 47 single-aisle transactions. The company said it also purchased a pair of Boeing 787-9s as well as eight Airbus A320neos and a single A321neo during the period. The period also was big on signing since the Paris Air Show was last month as it signed for 30 Boeing 787-9 jets.

The Airbus A330neo has been his with a delay. The aircraft was to take to the skies in the Spring of 2018 but Rolls Royce says they need more time to adequately test the new TRENT 7000 engines. They have no pushed the maiden flight back to last Summer 2018. Also, TAP Portugal will not be the launch customer anymore as they have delayed their delivery.

United appears as they will defer the first four of their Airbus A350-1000s they have on order. They are pushing them back to later in 2019. The Chicago-based carrier says the deliveries have been moved "out of 2018", in a quarterly earnings statement yesterday. The carrier does not suggest definitively when the A350s will be delivered.

The MRJ testing fleet has been grounded.

The Mitsubishi Regional Jet test fleet has been grounded as a result of a flame-out scenario on August 21. The flame-out happened to FTV2 of the test program and the pilots only knew of the issue when the left engine shut down. Preliminary investigations suggest that there is some internal damage to the engine and a PW team is on site assisting with the ongoing investigation. The MRJ program has been delayed and stretched into 2020 when All Nippon Airways (ANA) is expected to take delivery of the first aircraft. Pratt & Whitney has had many problems with their engines of late notably the PW1100G which powers the Airbus A320neo and now the PW1200G powering the MRJ is having issues.

Qantas Airways will upgrade the cabins of its 12 Airbus A380 aircraft, increasing premium seating and resulting in a net addition of one seat per jet. Qantas's A380s are equipped with 484 seats, which will rise to 485 after the upgrade, says Qantas. The work will commence in the second quarter of 2019, with all 12 aircraft upgraded by the end of 2020. The upgrade will see the number of first class suites remain stable at 14. Six business class seats will be added, bringing the total to 70. Premium economy seats will nearly double to 60, from 35 now. Economy seats will drop to 341 from 371. (FG)
