Just ahead of the PAS'17 Airbus unveiled the A380plus, which is basically an improved version of the A380 in existence. One notable difference on the exterior is that the A380plus has a hybrid winglet system which looks inspired by what Boeing is doing on their MAX line.

All supersonic airheads gather here! BooM Aerospace unveiled a model of their XB-1 model demonstrator at the Paris Air Show 2017. BooM seems to be generating some interest as they look to move their program forward to a tangible reality. Several commitments have come in from airlines and other companies for the aircraft type which is touted to carry 45 passengers in a two class configuration (airline wise) The Virgin group is the only airline that publicly identifies as a customer. Since the PAS'17 started a few more orders came in for the aircraft. With more than $40 million raised so far, the XB-1 is financed to enter final assembly later this year and achieve first flight in late 2018. The actual demonstrator, dubbed "Baby Boom" has completed preliminary design review.

Boeing continues to tease the market in relation to presenting a NMA (New Midsize Airplane). Of course this has to do with creating a new generation aircraft to essentially replace the Boeing 757. At the ongoing Paris Air Show 2017 they have released just a few snippets more of information concerning a possible new program targeting the 200 to 270 seat and 5,000 nautical mile market. The NMA will use composites "extensively" in the wings and fuselage, says Mike Delaney, Boeing's vice-president and general manager of aircraft development.

Bombardier announced today at the Paris Air Show 2017 that it has received an LOI order for Q400 turboprop aircraft from customer CemAir. CemAir is based in South Africa and they have signed an LOI for two Q400 airliners. Based on the Q400 turboprop list price, a firm order would be valued at approximately US$ 65 million.“We are proud of the Q Series turboprops’ continued success in Africa. Our operators appreciate their outstanding economics and performance, and we are delighted that CemAir intends to add new Q400 aircraft to its current fleet of Bombardier aircraft”, said Jean-Paul Boutibou, Vice President, Sales, Middle East and Africa. “With its unmatched capabilities, the Q400 is uniquely suitable for the region and we are thrilled with this additional recognition for our modern and versatile turboprop.”

“With their impressive short runway performance and the flexibility it brings to our operations, the Q Series turboprops have allowed us to build our network and fly passengers from more airports,” said Miles van der Molen, Chief Executive Officer, CemAir. “We are looking forward to the addition of these brand new Q400 aircraft which will help us support our growth and increase connectivity in South Africa.” CemAir are no strangers to Bombardier as they operate a Bombardier fleet of aircraft that include 17 planes – five Q Series turboprops and 12 CRJ Series aircraft-.

Boeing did very well at the 52nd running of the Paris Air Show. The airframer drew some 571 commitments from airlines and air companies which are worth nearly 75 billion dollars. Also noteworthy is that this is the first time Boeing has outpaced Airbus in order commitments since 2012 at a major airshow and this year they crushed their European direct rivals. Airbus netted close to 40 billion dollars in orders.

As part of its presence at the 52nd running of the Paris Air Show, Daher honoured the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into World War I with a symbolic paint scheme on one of its new TBM 930 very fast turboprop aircraft. The stars and stripes featured on this TBM 930 are a reminder of the role of France’s Morane-Saulnier – the predecessor aircraft manufacturer to Daher – in developing America’s nascent air power during the early 1900s. Morane-Saulnier’s “Parasol” high-wing aircraft served as trainers for the American Expeditionary Forces at Issoudun, France, which was the world’s largest air base at the time. “The World War I centennial celebrates 100 years of French and U.S. cooperation, a camaraderie that continues today across the Atlantic,” said Nicolas Chabbert, Senior Vice President of the Daher Airplane Business Unit. and President of Socata North America Inc., which is Daher’s subsidiary in the USA. “We are proud of Daher’s continued American presence, with nearly 1,000 airplanes in operation – composed of our TBM very fast turboprop, as well as the Rallye and TB general aviation aircraft. Backed by a network of 15 service centers, our company continues to give wings to U.S. aviators.”
