Korean Air becomes the third operator of the Bombardier CSeries. They just took delivery of their first CS300 aircraft which would be their first of 10 they have on order from the Canadian airframer. The delivery represents the 15th CSeries delivery so far for the year for Bombardier. Korean Air has been waiting a while for deliveries to start as they placed their order at the 2011 Paris Airshow.

Two more MRJ90 jets are set to soon join the flight test program next year. These ones will appear slightly differently in paint scheme, sporting the MRJ90 logo on the tail and at this point being all-white. Some changes were made to the MRJ design and these extra test aircraft are being built to conform to the certification related to those changes. The new aircraft are expected to zero-in on high-intensity radiated field and electromagnetic interference tests, functionality and reliability, passenger comfort and operational evaluation. The flight-test articles that will fully complete the certification of the MRJ will be 6 with these extra two aircraft. The existing planes engaged in the test program have already logged more than 1,500 hours of test flying. Originally, the MRJ program was to conclude at 2,500 flight hours but the new design changes necessitated an extra 500 hours and therefore will bring the total to 3,000 flight hours and that also means the program has now reached the halfway point. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2020 where customer All Nippon Airways (ANA) will be first in line.

Airbus delivered the first “New Singapore Airlines A380” with an upgraded and improved cabin that elevates the passenger experience to new heights – the result of four years of development and a significant investment by the airline. The milestone delivery involves the first of five new double-deck Airbus A380s that Singapore Airlines is adding to its fleet, and the $850 million spent by the carrier in developing the new cabin clearly underscores the airline’s ongoing and full commitment to Airbus’ flagship jetliner.

Pegasus Airlines, the leading Low-Cost-Carrier (LCC) in Turkey, has placed an order for 25 A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex configuration). This comes on top of 18 A321neo and 57 A320neos already on order, bringing Pegasus Airlines’ total firm order to 100 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. Pegasus’ selection to move to an all-Airbus fleet reflects its strategy to grow its domestic as well as its international network with the best middle-of-the-market aircraft available.

Royal Air Maroc flies 787s on international routes from Casablanca to North America, South America, the Middle East and Europe, and with the additional airplanes plans to expand service to these areas.

The first customer-bound Airbus A350-1000 won't be delivered this year as intended. The launch customer for the largest model in the A350 series is Qatar Airways. They have agreed to have it delivered early in the new year although Airbus does not shed light on what is the cause for the delay except to suggest that the aircraft is in final preparation phase for service entry. Qatar might be having a bit of a dejavu moment now after they have experienced lots of trouble with their orders for the Airbus A320Neo. They too were the launch customer for that model but deferred it and that allowed Lufthansa to take over the launch customer status.

China is set to make a monumental order from Airbus if talks between French President Emmanuel Macron and the Chinese Xi Jinping hold. They are looking to finalize an order for 184 Airbus aircraft, namely from the A320family. At this stage we are not sure if the announcement entails brand new orders or orders that have been made from an undisclosed customer. Either way deliveries are expected to go to 13 airlines starting in 2019. Many of the aircraft will be the Airbus A320neo.

Virgin Atlantic has been forced to acquire more Airbus A330s as a result of engine shortages for Boeing 787s. There is a shortage of Rolls Royce Trent 1000s to power their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and has had to acquire A330-200s likely from the now defunct Air Berlin. One of the A332s is already repainted into Virgin Atlantic colours and will show the registration G-VMNK. G-VWND and G-VMIK will be added over the next several weeks while a fourth to be registered G-VLNM is expected in in Spring.

IndiGO has grounded three of their Airbus A320NEOs as new Pratt & Whitney PW1100G issues continue. Airbus also informed the airline that all other A320NEO deliveries carrying this powerplant are on hold. IndiGO can take delivery of A320CEOs if they wish. P&W suggested that initial findings indicated that the problem was with the knife edge seal on the modified aft hub of the high-pressure compressor.
