Dassault’s 2017 Falcon Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Seminars will kick off April 11th in West Palm Beach, Florida. The seminars will make their way to eight cities around the world before concluding in Mahwah, New Jersey, on May 18th.

This year, for the first time, the Seminar Series was preceded by a special forum tailored to the needs of operators of older, out-of-production models like the Falcon 10, Falcon 20 and Falcon 50. This event, called Falcon Classic, took place on February 1st, in Dallas, Texas.

“The M&O Seminar Series has been an annual tradition since 1966, attracting hundreds of attendees between multiple venues,” said Jacques Chauvet, Dassault Aviation Senior Vice President of Worldwide Falcon Customer Service. ”But we also recognized that many of the earliest Falcons that we built are still flying. The Falcon Classic forum, which drew over 100 operators, was created to address the needs of this very unique community.”

As in previous editions, this year’s M&O Series will provide in-depth information on Dassault’s latest products and services, including the FalconResponse portfolio of AOG support services, along with demonstrations of the company’s latest performance software and app solutions and tips on how to keep Falcon aircraft up to the most advanced technological standards. Dassault Aviation’s partners will be present at each seminar location to answer Falcon operators’ questions. Seminars will include model-specific and general technical sessions addressing operational and technical topics ranging from troubleshooting solutions to reliability improvements and STC updates. Dedicated pilot sessions led by Falcon Pilot Support Teams will keep Falcon flight crews abreast of the latest developments in flight operations.

More than 2,100 Falcons are currently flying, with 1,225 operators around the world, in 90 countries.

2017 Falcon M&O Seminar Dates and Locations:
    • April 11th: West Palm Beach, Florida
    • April 12th: Shanghai, China
    • April 18th: Seattle, Washington
    • April 20th: Chicago, Illinois
    • April 26/27th: Paris, France

Dassault Aviation has approved Hawker Pacific’s Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia facility as an Authorized Service Center (ASC) for Falcon 8X, Falcon 7X, Falcon 2000 EX Easy- and Falcon 900 EX EASy- series aircraft.Located at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, the 36,000 square-foot facility is equipped to provide line maintenance services for both local and transient operators. It is ISO 9001:2008 certified as well as Part 145 Malaysian DCAM approved.

Maintenance approvals from the FAA and EASA are expected by mid-year. In addition to maintenance services, the facility can handle repair and overhaul, retrofits, modifications and upgrades, and accommodate 24/7 AOG (Aircraft On Ground) support, including a Go Team, complete with appropriate tooling and equipment. As well as ensuring a local support capability for operators based in Malaysia, the agreement will provide an alternate maintenance option for Falcon customers at Hawker Pacific’s Falcon ASC in Singapore. “Strengthening our global ASC network is vital to Dassault Aviation’s commitment to provide top notch local support for all Falcon customers, as evidenced by recent surveys that place the quality of Dassault support services at the top of the industry,” said Jacques Chauvet, Senior Vice President Worldwide Customer Service. ”And we’re confident that Hawker Pacific’s excellent service record and exemplary safety standards will maximize customer satisfaction for South-East Asian operators.”

This year, the Beijing International Business Aviation Show (CIBAS) will feature the Falcon 8X, Dassault’s newest business jet in the ultra-long range class.

Since entering into service last year, the 6,450 nm/11,945 km trijet has been delivered to operators in key markets around the world, including the United States, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and India. The first Chinese based aircraft will be handed over in the coming weeks.“The Falcon 8X offers the range and airport performance to connect our Chinese customers with business hubs throughout Europe, North America and Africa, which is of primary importance here,” said Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation. “And the feedback on our new flagship has been universally positive, especially cabin noise levels, which make it the quietest aircraft in its class.”

In the first six months the Falcon 8X has been in service, operational capability has been continuously upgraded, most recently through new approvals covering flight in severe crosswind conditions (up to 30 knots) and operation at London City Airport, one of the world’s most restrictive airfields.

The Dassault Falcon website has a slightly different front page now so it may look a bit different from when you last visited it. A number of other areas of the site have been updated and changed too.

Dassault Falcon Service Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary

Dassault Falcon Service celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, barely a year after the 100 year anniversary of its parent company, Dassault Aviation – a tribute to the key role this wholly-owned subsidiary has played in building the Falcon brand. Dassault Falcon Service (DFS) was created in 1967, under the name Europe Falcon Service, to provide customers in Europe, Africa and the Middle East with a level of product support on par with the quality of the company’s Falcon Jets. Today, DFS is the biggest Falcon support organization in the world, with 640 employees, approvals from more than 20 national airworthiness authorities and activities in maintenance, upgrades, FBO services, training and air charter. Its primary maintenance, overhaul and repair (MRO) facility, located at its home base in Paris/Le Bourget, is the largest in the world dedicated exclusively to Falcons, with seven hangars and 25 aircraft bays.

“Since its inception, fifty years ago, DFS has committed itself to optimizing interaction and proximity to Falcon operators and ensuring that they enjoy access to the best and most complete package of support services available in the industry,” said DFS General Manager Jean Kayanakis. “Maximizing customer satisfaction and maintaining ownership value remain our primary objective.” In 1988, in cooperation with Flight Training International, it created the Falcon Training Center, also located at Le Bourget. The center recently installed the first full flight simulator for Dassault’s new ultra-long range Falcon 8X trijet. In 2004, under its present name, DFS founded its first satellite service center, in Rome, and later added facilities in Nice, France and London/Luton and more recently, in Moscow/Vnukovo and Libreville, Gabon. All told, the satellite network handles some 1,500 customer events annually.

DFS also took over responsibility for customer support in India and China and beefed up its GoTeam and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) capability with FalconResponse, a portfolio of AOG services developed by Dassault Aviation that includes the industry’s first alternative lift offering. DFS operates one of the two dedicated Falcon 900 aircraft used by FalconResponse to support customers. The program has supported about 150 missions since it was introduced two years ago. Nearly half of users opt for alternative lift. In October 2016, DFS inaugurated a second MRO center in Mérignac, near Bordeaux, to service the Falcon 7X, 8X and future large body models to come.In May of this year, DFS signed an agreement with Japan Air Lines (JAL) that will enable JAL customers to travel on to destinations in Europe and Africa not covered by the airline’s commercial network using DFS’s charter fleet and Le Bourget FBO. DFS operates six Falcon Jets, including two Falcon 7X’s, and flew about 3,600 hours last year, making it one of Europe’s largest Falcon operators. Its Le Bourget FBO, which handles over 5,000 aircraft movements/year, was recently rated number three in Europe by European Business Aviation.

Dassault Falcon was at the recently concluded Dubai Air Show and they had their flagship Falcon 8X along with the Falcon 900LX. The exhibit featured a new modernized version of the super versatile Falcon 900LX long range trijet introduced in late 2016 as well as the flagship Falcon 8X. The 6,450 nm/11,945 km Falcon 8X has generated considerable excitement in the Middle East since the first aircraft was delivered to a Gulf customer several months ago. The 8X is now in service in all major markets, including the U.S., Europe, Russia, China and India, in addition to the Middle East.

“We expect the Gulf region to play a big role in the success of our new flagship, which offers the best combination of range, cabin comfort and operating efficiency of any business jet on the market,” said Dassault Aviation Chairman/CEO Eric Trappier. “We also anticipate heavy demand here for our upgraded Falcon 900LX model, with a re-designed cabin, contemporary styling, optimized sound proofing, and the latest cabin systems that make it the best buy in its category for years to come.”

Dassault Aviation will showcase its new flagship business jet, the ultra long range Falcon 8X, at Abu Dhabi Air Expo 2018, one of the Middle East’s leading business aviation shows. It will be the first appearance of the 6,450 nm/11,945 km trijet at this three-day event, which opens on February 26th at Al Bateen Executive Airport, Abu Dhabi. The first Falcon 8X was handed over in late 2016 and several 8Xs are already flying in the Gulf region. The aircraft is now in operation in all major markets, including the U.S., Europe, India, Brazil and China, as well as the Middle East. “The Gulf is a key market for business aviation and operators place a high premium on the performance, robustness and advanced technology of Falcon jets, inherited from Dassault fighter aircraft programs,” said Dassault Aviation Chairman/CEO Eric Trappier. “That’s why customers in the region are reacting so enthusiastically to the 8X. It offers the best combination of range, cabin comfort and operating efficiency of any business jet on the market.”

(ILA, Berlin ) German Aerospace Center DLR and Dassault Aviation today signed an agreement for the acquisition of a Falcon 2000LX twinjet. The agreement was signed at the Berlin Air Show in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The deal entails the delivery of a Falcon 2000LX and its transformation into an inflight Systems and Technology Airborne Research (iSTAR) vehicle capable of testing flight characteristics of new aircraft designs, real or virtual, piloted or unmanned, in real life operating conditions. In addition, iSTAR will serve as a test bed for aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, structures, propulsion, flight control and flight guidance applications.

“Dassault is granting DLR access to its internal development know-how and extensive experience in aerodynamics” said the Chair of DLR Executive Board Pascale Ehrenfreund, describing the special partnership. “The 2000LX has the performance and safety margins we need for a research vehicle and considerably reinforce our ability to conduct interdisciplinary research across the entire aviation system.”

Dassault Aviation recently launched FalconConnect, a comprehensive solution designed to facilitate the use, management and control of inflight connectivity. “Our industry has witnessed an unprecedented development in high-speed connectivity services which has dramatically increased cost and system complexity,” said Dassault Aviation Senior Executive Vice President, Civil Aviation, Olivier Villa. “Integrating onboard communications into a single offering and providing a single source for hardware, services and technical support is a way of resolving this challenge and reinventing the connectivity experience.” A partnership with Honeywell/GoDirect, FalconConnect, is designed to make connectivity as efficient and straightforward as possible for operators, crews and passengers alike. A dedicated web portal, data consumption trends, billing history, and specialized service management tools guarantee fingertip access to onboard usage. In addition, a dedicated 24/7 customer support line addresses all commercial, technical, service activation and hardware troubleshooting issues, ensuring a single point of contact at all times.

It would appear that Dassault Falcon and Safran came to a settlement regarding the Silvercrest Engines that were supposed to power the then Falcon 5X model. Of course you know the story by now, due to numerous delays with the engine, Dassault finally decided to drop Safran as well as the 5X program and relaunched new program called the 6X powered by PW engines. Under the terms of the agreement, Dassault will receive $280 million in compensation from Safran. All other parts of the original agreement, including Safran’s cash contribution to Dassault, remain unaffected.

Dassault Falcon has long been present down under in Australia. Their presence at the AVALON (Australian International Airshow) this year is not anything new. Australia has been an important market for Dassault for half a century. The company's first business jet, the Falcon 20, entered commercial service 'Down Under' in 1967, two years after its service introduction in the United States. The Falcon 20 entered the inventory of the Royal Australian Air Force the same year and served in the RAAF's transport and utility wing for 22 years before being replaced by the Falcon 900. The force flew five Falcon 900s for 13 years.

Dassault Aviation is acquiring ExecuJet's maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business at Subang Airport in a move that will considerably reinforce its aftermarket support capability in Southeast Asia. ExecuJet Malaysia is part of ExecuJet's global MRO network, which Dassault agreed to purchase earlier this year. The network includes operations in Africa, Europe and the Middle East as well as the Asia Pacific region.

The 64,000-square-foot Subang facility is the largest business aviation MRO in Malaysia and supports aircraft from a number of different manufacturers, based both within and outside the region. Following its acquisition by Dassault the facility is in the process of adding Falcons to its already impressive list of supported models. ExecuJet Malaysia will provide Falcon customers a choice of service facilities and complement Dassault's pre-existing support network in the region, including authorised third party service centers and a regional sales office in Kuala Lumpur. "Malaysia is an important center for business aviation and our largest Southeast Asian market. It is expected to achieve further growth in the future," said Dassault Aviation Asia Pacific President Jean-Michel Jacob. "To anticipate this growth, Dassault Aviation decided it was important to have a factory-owned service center in the region."

Dassault Aircraft Services celebrated the grand opening of the Stuart (KSUA) satellite service center. The service center was relocated from West Palm Beach in order to better meet the needs of the customer fleet in the area as well as transient aircraft.

"When our customers expressed a desire for an expansion of capacity and services in Southern Florida, we listened. Our move to Stuart features a larger space and will offer a variety of benefits to Falcon operators," said Geoff Chick, SVP Worldwide Service Network. "In addition to the same great team of professionals to carry out Falcon maintenance and upgrade needs, we will be increasing staffing levels to accommodate the increased capabilities." The new 25,000-square-foot space at the Stuart Jet Center offers twice the hangar capacity and more back-shop and customer office areas. In addition to more amenities such as rental cars, high-speed Wi-Fi, a coffee bar and meeting spaces, customers will have access to a 24/7 full-service FBO. Witham Field Airport (KSUA) is easily accessible with minimal Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). As an added bonus, the Stuart area offers affordable oceanfront resort hotels, world-class golf courses, and many dining and entertainment options.

A new Falcon 900EX for a prominent customer had its livery designed by the Happy Design Studio and features a tri-color livery dubbed "Thermidor". It pays homage to the family's heritage and the owner’s embodiment of French values, according to the Design house. The plane is for the grandson of Dassault. Four subtle shades of gray paint stretch across the fuselage of Dassault’s 900EX as well as a trilogy of blue, white, and red stripes.
