Malaysia Airlines is eyeing a few Boeing 787-9s as the tentative signing for eight 787-9s and purchase rights to another eight suggest. Of course they have to firm the decision but they appear to be serious. "New widebody aircraft are a key to making Malaysia Airlines a premium airline offering a five star product again. The extraordinary range of the 787-9 gives an ability to operate to any point in Europe and some USA destinations in the future from Kuala Lumpur," says Malaysia Airlines' managing director and chief executive Peter Bellew. Additionally Malaysia will be leasing six Airbus A350-900s to replace their A380 service on long haul route. The planes will be leased from Air Lease Corporation.

Yesterday kicked off the process using a robot. “This is a change in the history of how we manufacture, how we assemble and how we fly our aircraft,” 777/777X operations vice president Jason Clark told a couple hundred employees and journalists on hand for the start of production. Schedules call for the start of final assembly next year, followed by flight tests in 2019 and delivery in 2020, he added. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has given Airbus type certification for the A350-1000, the newest and longest member of the A350 family. The certification will now allow for deliveries to commence by the end of the year and launch customer Qatar Airways will take the first production aircraft of the type. The A350-1000 fleet amassed some 1,600 plus flight hours of testing. Three test articles were utilized in the test campaign. It is expected that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will give their validation of the Rolls Royce Trent XWB97-powered twin 'shortly'.
