    What would you have?

As the title says really, if you had the cash to splurge on any jet you wanted, what would it be and why? I must admit to having a thing for military jets (You might have noticed a theme developing in the pics I've posted), so for me an ex military two-seater would be a lot of fun and if that wasn't doable, then something along the lines of the ATG Javelin would do very nicely.

I have a nice business jet already. But if money was not a problem. I would really like to jump up into a wide body long range business jet.

Warped minds, trumped up on high-G adrenaline think alike, Mike. When this thread came up, the first thing that came to mind was a T-38. Obviously a lousy choice for business, however it could provide a certain degree of negotiating leverage if properly equipped. ;)

Make my fantasy a Beech Starship, shrunk down to the size of a Cessna 310.

    parachute anybody?

I WISH MY P 51 WAS PRESSURIZED and had deicing as well and people would keep there fingers off the polished prop

Whenever someone asks me that kind of question on any subject; I tend to think really big. For years I have dreamed on something like the Flying Palace. Now, someone had that same idea, just that he has the cash to spend on it. But I still like the idea.

Well "if money was no object..." Beyonce would have apparently bought her husband a Bombardier Challenger 850. 40-million dollars allegedly.

I was just speculating on the possible outcome of shrinking a radical design into a smaller package

The Beriev with some of the water tanks converted into fuel for extra range would make this a world-class yacht! Hehe. Would love to set down at Monaco with one and drop anchor next to all the mega-yachts. Sure would be a good conversation piece.

you got me going through my mind about different planes i have seen and brought back some memories of a couple i met a long time ago that had converted a dc 3 into kind of like a living quarters inside. i saw them at west yellow stone camping out of it. i think it was 25 to 30 years ago now. my 3 oldest kids and i had flown our 56 tc barron up there and were camping

    (oh the memories )

    If money was no object...?

But money is and always was except for the guy flying his Rolls around in the A-380...

With that much money you don't know who your real friends are, I think...
(I will never know for sure. :D)

My favorite fun ride would be a C-185 on a dirt strip. Flew them for a living in Alaska and have fond memories.

I don't think I could just do one jet, and if money was no object, I would start with a G550 (or 650 after they've had a chance to work out the kinks). While the 550 is great for getting around on longer flights, a turbo-prop such as the new Piaggio Avanti II would be ideal for smaller airports with shorter runways. Lastly I would pick up a turbine helicopter, an S76 would be nice, although I'd probably need something a bit smaller to land on my yacht .

And on that note, I always find it interesting when people have a diverse flight department. I know an individual who has a 727 VIP but nothing smaller to supplement when he needs to get into shorter fields. On the other side of the coin, theres a guy here in Florida who maintains airplanes from a BBJ all the way to his float plane and helicopters to get around the islands. Smaller flight departments whether for an individual or for a corporation generally have a jet and a turbo-prop somewhere in the mix for their varying missions. It's also refreshing that a lot of CEOs and aircraft owners are enthusiasts, and some of them even seek out flying lessons for their chance in the cockpit. For example, Mayor Bloomberg is a helicopter pilot and owns/operates an Agusta.

AV4512, I'm afraid you made a contradictory statement. With its short little wings the Avanti II loves long runways. Pilots I know who fly them say they don't like landing on anything less than 5000ft, and they say even that length will add to the pucker-factor.

If you need REALLY short runway ability, go with a Pilatus Porter or a Kodiak. If you need not-so-short runway, but still desire Bush ability AND pressurization then go with a PC-12. Can't go wrong with that bird.

    DD,

I haven't had the opportunity to fly or fly in one of these so I won't know the specifics other than what I have read and heard from owners/charter management companies. The Avanti is in a whole different league than a Kodiak/Porter - those are bush planes, whereas the Avanti would be used for fields with a runway length of probably 3,500ft-6,000ft (a gap where the G550 wouldn't be able to perform). Keep in mind that the data published isn't necessarily including full pax/fuel so you may be right about the Avanti eating up more runway with a full load, on a hot day, at a higher elevated airport. I have sat in a new Avanti II and I can say that the cabin comfort is unparalleled when it comes to comparing it against other turbo-props, and it can even run up with the CJ1/2 JET aircraft from Cessna as well as others like the Beech Premier I. If I really wanted a short-field performer in the executive turbo-prop class, I would choose the Pilatus PC-12, however, I prefer to have a backup engine versus a single. Figured i'd explain my logic! Some resources are below:

hey diesel driver do i know you you sound like some one i know that has a lot of bush exp and a lot of pc/12 time , the ideal situation is a beaver on floats to get to the good fishing spots and a turbine chopper that lands on the back deck of the boat to get me to the good hunting places then a small jet to get me close to the big jet that can take me any were in the world i need to go , all it takes is a BIG budjet and it will happen

I had the ideal situation that Travler has in mind for his sport thrills. Back in my past history when money was no object, we had our sailboats (they varied in length from 76 - 100') in the Caribbean. We got the jets (listed in another thread) to get us to our boat faster. Then we needed to get to the jet hangar faster so we got a helicopter (Aerospatiale twin engine).

When time is precious, money is no object. Or maybe when money is no object, time is precious :D

Hmmmmmmmmm... If you're that guy with that big blue fishing boat named after his sweetie, then yeah I think we might know each other. Hehe. ;)

I can't argue with that flawless logic! Lemme know if you ever come up with the budget and I'll help you set it up.
